McGee is a 13-year veteran who played last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets. He averaged 7.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in 46 total appearances, shooting 51.1% from the floor and 20.8% from the three-point arc in 14.7 minutes per game.
Johnson, a small forward with the San Antonio Spurs, is on the other end of the career spectrum. Just 21, he averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in 28.5 minutes per game, shooting 47.9% from the field and 33.1% from the arc over 69 games.
Team USA was scheduled to face Australia today in their fourth exhibition game but the match was cancelled for health and safety reasons. The team is 1-2 so far in pre-Olympics play.

Damian Lillard has told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports that he is thinking about his future and that of the Portland Trail Blazers differently at this juncture of his career than he once did. The interview does not appear to be in direct response to another piece published this morning by Henry Abbott of TrueHoop, citing a source close to Lillard saying that the All-Star guard will demand a trade out of Portland. The Haynes article indicates that Lillard will address the TrueHoop piece during media availability following Team USA practice today.
After discussion about the national team and criticism over losing two exhibition games, Haynes asked Lillard specifically about his thoughts on the Blazers.
First Lillard spoke of his own outlook and responsibility:
I didn’t come into the league worrying about what others were doing in the organization. I didn’t come in with that type of mentality. But I’ve been active in probably 95% of the games in my career. I’ve played through injuries, and I’ve been a part of two rebuilds. I feel like I’ve experienced everything with the Trail Blazers, and I’ve worn that jersey as a badge of honor and with a lot of pride and care. I never felt like my job was to go in and critique what other people were doing in the organization. My job was to make sure the team is functioning and trying to lead them to the best results. I’ve always assumed everybody’s mentality was the same.
Then he talked about the franchise:
...everybody in this organization must look in the mirror because we’ve constantly come up short. We have to look in the mirror and say I have to be better because whatever it is we’re doing is not working and it’s not giving us the shot to compete on the level that we want to compete on.
When Haynes asked why this is such a pivotal moment in his relationship with the Blazers, Lillard responded:
There are few reasons: One being I’m not getting any younger. Our environment has always been great. We’re not losing a lot, but we were eliminated by a shorthanded Denver team that I felt we should have beat. I just walked away from that really disappointed. I was like, ‘Man, this just isn’t going to work.’ We’re not winning the championship, but we’ve got a successful organization. We’re not a franchise that’s just out here losing every year and getting divided. We have positive seasons; we just don’t end up with a championship. So I feel like at this point, I basically made the decision that if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll always be where you’ve always been.
The 31-year-old guard has spent all nine seasons in the NBA with the Blazers since Portland selected him 6th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft. He’s earned 6 All-Star nods and a half-dozen All-NBA Team nominations (one first-team) while averaging 24.7 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.2 rebounds over 682 appearances.

Lewis is a next-level athlete with stellar physical measurements. Buoyed by a plethora of quick-twitch muscles and a seven-foot wingspan, Lewis is an absolute menace on the defensive end. Using his lateral quickness, he glides into passing lanes and maintains proper positioning in one-on-one matchups. Offensively, Lewis possesses an extra gear that allows him to blow past defenders in the open court. At the rim, he is an above-the-rim finisher. When attacking the basket, the former Gators wing can launch off either foot.
From a physical standpoint, Lewis is at the top of the 2021 class. At the combine, he finished at or near the top in multiple categories. His length and agility should allow him to guard multiple positions as a professional.
Outside of his physical gifts and defensive instincts, Lewis lacks polish in several key areas. Offensively, his shot is inconsistent. Both is three-point and free throw percentages slid in the wrong direction during his sophomore season in Gainesville. When creating for himself, Lewis lacks creativity as a ball handler. If he doesn’t get by his defender initially, buckle up for a bumpy ride. Defensively, he must maintain discipline if he intends to stay on the floor. Last season, his per 40 foul rate crept up to 3.9.
Lewis was crammed into a system at Florida that was led by star guard Tre Mann. Offensively, Lewis was often the third or fourth option in half-court sets. As a team, the Gators finished the year with a pedestrian 15-10 record. In the NCAA Tournament, Florida was bounced in the second round. Individually, Lewis finished inside the SEC’s top 20 for total steals and blocks.
In terms of late-round options, there isn’t a prospect with more raw athleticism than Lewis. He dazzled at the combine and his quickness leaps off screen when watching his game film. That said, his transition to the NBA will require patience. Under the right coaching staff, Lewis could blossom into a defensive specialist with the length to guard multiple positions. On the opposite end of the floor, Lewis must develop a reliable skill for half-court sets. Otherwise, opponents will abandon him on the perimeter.
The Blazers are in position to re-tool their bench in the offseason. If Portland is looking for a long-term prospect with unteachable strengths, Lewis fits the bill. His favorable wingspan on the perimeter aligns with the physical profiles of both Anfernee Simons and Norman Powell. In the open floor, if the Blazers shift to a pace-friendly scheme, Lewis could provide a spark in certain situations. It is also possible that Lewis slips completely out of the draft, which would allow the Blazers to chase him without surrendering assets. In the end, Lewis is a textbook boom-or-bust prospect.

Ogwumike is definitely going to be a nightmare on both ends. Normally, you have to defend someone with two arms. Being a spider-like character, she has six arms and two legs. In real life, she is a solid rebounder and finisher around the rim with a relentless style of player. She never gives up and spiders don’t either when you attempt to remove them from your bedroom. I already have arachnophobia so I definitely would like to be on the bench while she’s on the court, but good luck to the Toon Squad.
With this movie taking 24 years to debut, many different athletes were considered for featured roles. After Michael Jordan’s refusal to do another movie, Tony Hawk, Tiger Woods, and Jeff Gordon supposedly made the list. Then LeBron was brought on, which preserved the basketball theme. With upgrades in technology and a seemingly much improved cast, this movie looks to be exciting. The characters are unique and the directors did a great job with connecting the abilities of the real NBA/WNBA players with their on-screen counterparts. The debut for ‘A New Legacy’ comes today July 16, 2021.
